Your Questions: ANSWERED!

WARNING: There are no pictures in this blog post. Get out while you still can.

Who is your favourite fictional character?
Ultimately it is a character I made up, named Lucian, but I think it would be more interesting for everyone if I chose a character everybody else knew. So... I'm gonna go with The Doctor!

what is your favorite item in your closet?
This is suuuper boring, but I have to say it: my black Old Navy cardigan. It goes with everything, it's super soft and comfy, and I wear it pretty much every day.

What is your favorite music?
My tastes differ depending on mood, but I do have a general range of things that I stick to. I love melodic electronic-y music, like Shiny Toy Guns for example. I'm also a huge fan of female artists with a rich sound, like Florence + The Machine, or Marina & the Diamonds. I will always love Celtic and folk music, as well as new-age style stuff like Enya. Oftentimes when I want something upbeat, I'm drawn to more indie, hipster music, like Vampire Weekend or The Decemberists (are they indie anymore?). So I guess it varies... but my three favorite artists of all time ever are: Jethro Tull, Patrick Wolf, and Shiny Toy Guns.

What are your feelings on Hellboy? / Have you read Hellboy comics? / Have you seen the animated Hellboy movies?
Omg Hellboy! So, no. I have not read the comics or seen the animated movies. I'm admittedly not a huge comic reader, but I do dabble from time to time. I've seen the first live action movie, though! I thought it was super fun. I really wanted to see the second one, but Greg was against it, and I haven't gotten 'round to watching it on my own yet.

Have you ever watched Firefly?
Uh... YEAH! It's only my favorite show ever in the world! It beats out Doctor Who and Stargate SG-1, amazingly. The characters are just so awesome, and I love every episode. I can't believe Fox canceled it! I wish they'd make a sequel to Serenity. I just love Mal so much, and Simon... and Kaylee! And Wash! And everyone else... wah.

So, uh...was it Twilight porn?
This was not submitted for the Q&A post, but I felt it ought to be added. No it wasn't porn! Sadface! It was just a really inappropriate and badly made Twilight spoof!

you're so dinky, how tall are you?
Haha, dinky! Yes, I am dinky. I'm a little over 5'1".

What do you wish you knew when you started blogging?
I wish I knew how to take good photographs; I still do! How the eff do people do it?

Do you ever pick a bugger, roll it around and then flick it?
Yes.

Do you really long to come clean about the ranch dressing incident? I notice you have mentioned it more than once lately...
Whoever you are, you're creeping my facebook! And, no.

random question time - do your tights ever stick to skirts? do you know how do get rid of it? i cannot seem to keep my skirt from clinging.
I... don't seem to have this problem? Or maybe I do and I don't notice, and I'm just wandering around with clingy skirts, completely oblivious. I would say, rub your tights and the inside of your skirt with a dryer sheet. Or wear a slip!

why does kraft mac and cheese taste so good?? lol, tho seriously when are you gonna come to the uk and visit me?
Because it's gooey and unnaturally orange. I will visit you as soon as humanly possible! I want to go to the UK more than anything in the world!

What are your favorite things to do in Portland?
Eat dinner out with my awesome friends, walk along Hawthorne and look in the stores, take the MAX downtown for coffee or a happy hour... pretty much anything that involves friends, food or coffee, and shopping.

how did you meet your boyfriend?
Awkward story: he used to be my ex boyfriend's roommate. Greg and I became good friends, and when my ex broke up with me, Greg and I just sort of happened naturally. It created a big pile of drama in our social circle, but I'll stop before this becomes a case of tl;dr.

what do you do to style your hair/bangs?
After washing or wetting down my hair, I put in some Garnier Fructisse leave-in conditioner, focusing on the ends and curliest parts of my hair. Then I blow-dry my bangs straight just pulling at them with my fingers while I dry, and then turn my head upside down and dry the rest of my hair. When it's still a bit damp, I then use a flat iron to straighten my bangs even more. If it's raining out I put in this stuff that's supposed to protect my hair from moisture, which I'm pretty sure doesn't actually work. I sometimes try to define my curls by twisting them around my fingers. That's if I'm not feeling lazy (which is rarely). The end.

How did you get into fashion blogging?
I guess it all started with Gala Darling, whose blog inspired me at a time in my life when I needed a lot of inspiration. Then I moved on to The Clothes Horse, who represented interests and a lifestyle that seemed so magical and fascinating to me. The way she styled her clothes was like nothing I'd seen before in my life in Montana. After that I just felt the calling of Clothes and Style, and after a trip to NYC with my dad in October of 2008, I created my first blog, Meg Sue & You. I lost interest with that due to a horrible body image, low self-esteem, and an extreme case of cynicism in regards to the entire blogging world. I only started again after losing 30 lbs, and being super bored and unemployed after moving to Portland. I also realized that I wanted to blog for fun, and to cultivate my own style, not because I wanted fame or money or free clothes or whatever. So now it's a lot more fun. The end!

What are your hopes & dreams for the future? And what's your worst habit?
Hopes and dreams include: traveling to as many awesome places in the world as possible, writing and publishing a fantasy novel, attending a masquerade ball, and finding utter happiness. My worst habit is my tendency to undersell myself, and as a result, give up on things before I start.

Winter Tea

I finally finished I Capture the Castle on Thursday, so I watched the movie last night. It was relatively loyal to the book with some minor changes, but my main problem with the movie was in its tone. While reading the book (which is told from the point of view of the protagonist, Cassandra), I got a humorous, quirky vibe due to the youth and honesty with which she writes in her journal. For some reason the movie seemed almost too grim. Maybe I misinterpreted the book, though; I'm known to do that. I'm curious, though -- if you've read the book, did you then watch the movie? What did you think, was the tone just right, or too serious?

Anyway, moving on to FASHUN. I really liked the 1930s clothes they wore in the movie, thin old dresses with cardigans and wool hats. It was all very impoverished, but in a cozy, charming way. And I decided that's how I want to dress this fall/winter, albeit less impoverished and more cozy. So I made a polyvore set. Behold.

Do want! I now have little slip dresses and thick cable-knit sweaters at the top of my Must Buy For Fall list. I've yet to even begin doing my fall shopping, and some people are already done. What even, you guys!

I'd also like to make a public service announcement: if you have any pressing questions to ask me for the upcoming Q&A post (lol bold), please ask them here or at my Formspring! Last chance! I'll most likely do an answer post tomorrow or thereabouts. Ever wanted to know how much I can bench press (don't bother asking, I don't know the answer)? Curious whether or not I floss regularly? Want to know my favorite historical figure or fictional character? Now's the time! Ask away. I invite any and all awkward personal questions as well. Unless they involve ranch dressing (don't ask, really).

p.s. Pad Thai Kitchen on Belmont serves huge portions when you get take-out! As in, I will never finish eating this pad thai!

Android Love

Okay guys... okay. Let's just clear things up once and for all. If you're worried I may like Star Trek more than Star Wars, please -- direct your attention to the following:

And that's what it's all about. Let's get some love up in here for every sci fi badassery! Including Stargate. Let's not forget that. I love them all equally, but in different ways. As if they were my children.

I may have had some beer tonight. Deal with it.

p.s. I encourage any related questions for the Q&A post of doom!

Dim Lighting

I'm wearing: Hot Topic t-shirt, thrifted skirt, F21 sweater tights, Old Navy cardigan, Wet Seal belt.

I'm slowly easing myself back into the outfit photo routine. I just didn't have it in me to wander outside for photos, though. I hope you'll forgive me! I need to bite the bullet and invest in a tripod. Before we all die of low-lit photo disease.

I am now going to watch something called Taintlight. Let's hope it's not actually Twilight porn...

As of Late

Please forgive me, internet! I've been a bad style blogger. I was going to take some outfit photos today, but it turns out my camera battery is dead. Oops? I ended up cuddling up on the couch and watching Merlin on the big ol' TV instead. Greg's out of town until Tuesday, so I can watch all the dorky shows I want! We hook up Greg's computer to the TV, and mine won't do it right, so that's how I watch shows -- through the computer. We don't have real TV. So with Greg gone, his computer and therefore the TV are all mine. *rubs hands together*

Anyway, here are some exciting pictures I found in my camera. Clearly I get really bored at work. That first picture is me wearing Greg's hat for him (he likes girls in baseball caps; I know, how did that happen? I hate wearing baseball caps), getting ready to watch me some hot quasi-medieval dudes banter in a slightly homoerotic manner (Merlin).

It's a good idea to take phone pictures while commuting during rush hour on a rainy day...

I get really bored at work.

For those who read my twitter, these are the boots that rule. You've seen them before, but I was just bored and admiring them. Derp. (I use my computer as a foot rest. It's not good for much more than that. 640 megs of RAM? Shoot me.)

I produce about one page like this of doodles per day. Like I said, really bored. (Yes those are Stargates.)

It's okay though, my job is slowly getting less painful, as I feel I'm adapting to the later shift. My boss said she'll keep an eye out for anybody who wants to switch shifts, though, so at least I might be able to get an earlier shift one day. As far as customer service, well... people in general are pretty Stupid, but the job itself is pretty okay. That's all I have to say about that.

Last but not least, if you want to ask me a question for my Q&A post, direct your questions to my comments, or my Formspring! I'll probably post the answers sometime next week, or this weekend if I get antsy. Also I encourage stupid and awkward questions! Bring 'em on!

Back From the Somewhat Dead

Here are some random photos from my awesome friend Ashleigh's bachelorette party this past weekend. Pretty much the only semi-flattering one of me, plus an awesome party hat pic, a tattoo, and an infinity pool!

The Four Seasons Hotel in Seattle is very nice. So, amazingly, was the weather on Saturday!

Yours truly, my dearest Rose, and the bride to be herself.

We were told to don the party hats.

Rose has the coolest tattoos. This one is of St Christopher, who protects her when she travels. Russian Orthodox style. So awesome!

Well the job is still exhausting me, and I am having an incredibly hard time getting dressed in the morning in anything that's not super cuddly and comfy. I'm not a morning person. I'm working on it, though! I'll be doing outfit posts regularly again as soon as I can accustom myself to getting up at 7:30am.

I was thinking I might do a Q&A post (bolded so you don't miss it when you're quickly scrolling past the text like I sometimes do), but it's really up to you all whether or not I do! If you have any questions for me, I don't care what they are, just post 'em in the comments or on my Formspring if you want to be anon for whatever reason. If I get some questions, I'll do a post answering them in the future. If not, whatevs, no big deal!

Also let me just say thank you guys a million for all of your input on my last post! So many awesome solutions. Unfortunately for me (but fortunately for my bank account), I ended up wearing a super old dress that I don't particularly like, but I didn't care overmuch because I ended up having tons of fun in downtown Seattle! I forgot how much fun it is to hang out with a big group of girls.

Well, time to read I Capture the Castle and then bed! I hope you guys have an awesome night. ♥

Baggy Eyeballs

This is me attempting to look somewhat alive after a long day of work. For some reason the 9:00 - 6:00 shift is really hard on me. I've always been better at working early and leaving early, but I suppose I'll get used to it. In the meantime I'll wear sunglasses to hide my horrendous under-eye bags. Eeeesh!

I'm wearing: H&M sweater dress, Wet Seal belt, Target tights and flats, Ralph Lauren sunglasses.

I had to run and pick up these tights on my lunch hour, because the air conditioning in our building is still on and I'm quite prone to cold. Who knows why I decided to go bare-legged today, but I did, and now I won't anymore. I was freezing all day! Thank goodness for a nearby Target. At any rate, at least I had this warm fuzzy dress to keep me somewhat cozy. I picked it up this spring at H&M, and I haven't quite been able to wear it yet. Finally the weather is agreeing with me!

So, my blogger friends, I'm having a minor dilemma. This weekend I'm going up to Seattle for a friend's bachelorette party. But woe is me, I have nothing to wear! I really don't. I'm pretty much devoid of any kind of party dresses that would fit a night of clubbing in Seattle. Do any of you think it would be super irresponsible of me to get a super cheap dress at like Forever21, even though I haven't received a full paycheck yet? Ack! I just don't know... I may have to sell some clothes at Buffalo Exchange to get the money for it. I'm super annoyed at the prospect of clubbing all night and having nothing to wear. We'll see what happens. Anyway, what would you chaps do in this situation?

Geek and Gamer Girls

No time or energy for a real post today, but I had to share this music video with you guys. It is my new theme song. Check it out!

Clothes from the Past

Oh my assbuckets, they removed the cool cement blocks that I used to utilize as my makeshift tripod for outfit shots! Nooooo....! My backdrop is still there, but now I have nowhere to put my camera. This is tragic. I felt like I really should update my blog after a long while of neglect though, so I used my friend's car as a tripod instead. These photos are super washed-out and weird... but at least they're better than nothing.

I'm wearing: F21 skirt (from absolute ages ago), Old Navy sweater, Target tights, Payless sneakers.

So most of this outfit (okay, just the skirt and sweater, but that's all there is) is from the bags of clothes my mom brought out here from Montana where I'd had it stored for over a year. I was going to get rid of this skirt because I figured it was far too small for me anymore, but turns out it fits again! Huzzah. This is actually the kind of outfit I wore every single day for a couple years in college -- plaid pleated skirt, sneakers, and a t-shirt or sweater. It was quite the uniform, but cute and functional, and it identified me as a geek so that was nice. However I always wore these beat-up old black Chuck Taylors, which I've since thrown out. These Keds rip-offs were picked up at Payless right before PAX, so I'd have some comfy shoes to stand in all day. Plus I needed some sneakers quite badly. Never part a geek girl with her sneakers, fashionista or not. They will be needed at some point.

So the reason I've been mostly absent from the blog lately, aside from PAX, is that my new job is super exhausting. I absolutely love it, but getting used to the 8-hour work day is quite an ordeal. Luckily I'm feeling a bit less bushed tonight, so hopefully I'm starting to get used to it. I've still been tweeting a lot though, so check out my twitter if you wanna see what random thoughts pop into my head throughout the day. My posts there are locked for the moment, but if you request to read them, I'll probably letcha.

Well well. I really need to get paid so I can pay my phone bill and think about buying a tripod, but not actually do it. Fie.

PAX Prime 2010!

I don't have an outfit for you, but I want to share some of my photos from PAX 2010! I had such an immensely fun weekend at PAX, thanks entirely to the amazing Greg, who paid for everything and is the best boyfriend in the entire history of boyfriends. ♥

Morning of Day 2. Suuuuper tired.

There were so many amazing cosplayers on Saturday!

I'm a Daeva now.

My people. Uncomfortably crammed together in a room, waiting to see geek celebrities play a live D&D campaign. One of the highlights of my weekend!

Hey blood elf, how you doin'?

Best ever: Pedobear!
