Schoolgirl Geek

O hai internet. What's happening? Not much on my end. Just a sudden burst of amazing weather, courtesy of Portland, and an extreme craving for an iced vanilla latte. And a new hat.

I'm wearing: Old Navy skirt; American Eagle shirt; F21 vest, earrings, and hat; Target socks; shoes from Ross.

My outfit's not very subtle today. I wonder if I'm going for a schoolgirl look? Hmm... not sure! You decide. (I'm being sarcastic here, just to clarify.) I feel ridiculously comfortable in this kind of outfit. Not in a physical way, but mentally. It's geeky, but in a vague way, and it's definitely not as trendy as some of my other looks lately. I don't feel as comfortable when I'm wearing the latest trends; it makes me feel like a poseur.

Anyhow! I think I'm going to apply for some jobs and then wrest the XBox away from my man so I can check my property holdings on Fable II. Oh yeah.

Oh, and everybody who said Fringe was awesome? You're so right! We watched the first episode last night, and while it was focused mainly on introducing the characters and the overarching series plot, it was super fun times. Can't wait to watch more!

Black & White Romanticism

Thank the heavens. It's in the 70s and windy today. At last, a respite from the overbearing and energy-sapping heat! You can blame 90-something temperatures for my absence from the blog. It's just not that fun getting all dressed up and taking photos out in the sweltering heat, especially if you're just going to take it all off again once you get back inside. To my relief, today I woke up to a much milder day, and thought it would be the perfect time to style this new dress I found at Buffalo Exchange.

I'm wearing: Thrifted dress, Target tights, Aldo shoes, F21 earrings.

Greg and I recently started watching Leverage, a dramedy (this word needs to be used more) about a crew of thieves who steal from the rich and give back to those who have been wronged by said rich dudes. It's very Robin Hood-esque, but totally entertaining, and they film it here in Portland! It's fun recognizing landmarks in the background of outdoor shots. Sadly we've already nearly finished season 2, so once we're caught up we plan on starting Fringe. Do any of you watch it? Thoughts?

I Heart Paisley

I almost didn't take outfit photos today, but I like how this purple tee goes with my paisley skirt, so I figured I probably should. Just so I wouldn't have to wear it again later. What a laaaazy day today.

I'm wearing: American Eagle t-shirt, F21 skirt, vintage belt, Blowfish booties.

I have another interview on Friday. I really hope it goes well! It sounds like a job I'd be quite good at, although I haven't really heard much about it. Based on what I know, it wouldn't be a bad job. Wish me luck! ♥

And I just want to say, thank you all, every single one of you, for your lovely, sweet comments on my posts. I'm loving visiting so many of your blogs that I'd never read before. I love being a part of a community of well-dressed girls (and boys). Yay! So thank you, again, for coming here and being so positive and affirming. :)

Doctor Who?

Talk about going on and on about something for ages, right? I just won't shut up about Doctor Who. Nor will I, if the show continues to be so amazingly awesome (which it will). If you like sci fi, fantasy, time travel, comedy, adventure, and super-dee-duperly hot dudes in bow ties, you should probably watch this show. Netflix is your friend!

I'm wearing: Target skirt, socks, shoes, and necklace; ThinkGeek t-shirt.

I decided to show my love for the Doctor today via my sartorial choices. Well, one choice, the t-shirt. My first Doctor was Nine, played by Christopher Eccleston, and he really was such a great Doctor. "My" Doctor.

Perhaps this isn't the most chic outfit in the world, but it's fun, and I like it.

Not that much to say at this point, as I haven't quite "woken up" as it were. I usually get my burst of energy around midnight. How ridiculous my sleeping schedule has become! I maintain that I'm naturally nocturnal, to justify sleeping in 'til 2:30 in the afternoon. As much as I don't quite buy that it's an actual "disorder" or whatever. Who knows.

Happy Birthday USA!

I'm getting my blog post done a bit late tonight, it being 12:30 and actually not July 4th anymore. I was busy all evening with Greg, though, and didn't have time to write up a whole post. We made hamburgers and fries, gorged on Ben & Jerry's ice cream, and watched 1776. Okay, I made Greg watch it partially against his will, but he sat through all three hours of it, with only a few pained glances in my direction. He's such a sweet, long-suffering boyfriend. ♥ What a sport.

Well, if that wasn't enough torture for one man, I then made him watch the 4th of July episode of Liberty's Kids too. It was only half an hour, though! And it was my favorite thing ever back in high school. The best grade I got in AP US History was the American Revolution quiz, and that was solely because I obsessively watched Liberty's Kids every day after school with two s'mores Pop Tarts and a Dr Pepper. Never say children's television isn't educational! Well, PBS children's television at any rate. I kind of miss the simple pleasures of high school.

I'm wearing: Dress from Ross, F21 belt, Target shoes and tights.

So this is my lovely red, white, and blue outfit! I planned it last week, but I had to wait all this time to finally wear it. It's not that exciting, but it's super patriotic! I may not agree with my government at times, and I may be disgusted by a great many ignorant, unhealthy, and bigoted Americans, but I do love my country. It's so diverse and ridiculous. And it's positively overflowing with confidence. I love that. And I have a gigantic crush on Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton, historical Founding Hotties. Need I say more?

Baguette!

Today I was going to trek the 5 or so blocks from our apartment to Stumptown Coffee, as I haven't actually gone there yet... I know, what kind of Portlander am I? I haven't been to Voodoo Donuts either since we moved, but in my defense, I'm trying to watch what I eat. And I've been there in the past, so it's not entirely pressing that I consume a million donuts from Voodoo (and, don't worry, I would consume millions if I allowed myself to enter the premises). However, I ended up just nipping around the corner to Bare Bones, which was a good choice, as the barista was so sweet and made me the best skinny vanilla latte ever. ♥

Speaking of pastries! My outfit today is decidedly French inspired. Stereotypically, at any rate. I did take a year of French in college, but as these things do, it's completely fled my memory. I remember how to say "I don't understand," and that's pretty much it. It's no wonder I got a D in 102. German is much easier, and much more fun! Kids, take German, not French.

I'm wearing: Express skirt and top, Target tights and necklace, GoJane shoes, F21 beret.

I'm throwing some artsy vegetation shots in there for my mom. For some reason I think she'd really love the whole overgrown, green look of Portland residential areas, so here you go Mom! These photos were all taken within 2 blocks of our place, and it just gets greener and more overgrown. And so much moss! I think I might make a terrarium one of these days. Just a simple one with moss and a little plant or two. Have any of you made a terrarium? I think they're so cool!

Chilly in Portland

Today it's overcast and raining. I managed to get my outfit shots in before the rain started, so that's good. I love the rain. I love being slightly chilled, knowing the only thing between myself and cozy warmth is a fleece blanket and some hot cocoa. I think if summer lasted for two weeks, max, I'd be satisfied. Just enough time to float the river, visit the beach, and have pints at an outside table at the pub. Anything beyond that is overkill. I just don't like summer. There, I said it.

I'm wearing: Dress from YesStyle, Target tights, shoes from Famous Footwear (no idea of the brand), necklace from Macy's.

I just don't have the energy to talk about how much it sucks being unemployed right now. Just know that all I've been doing for the past three days is playing Fable II with Greg (we switch off), enjoying our new 46" Sony Bravia. I've also been trying to finish the Midsummer meta achievement in WoW, which will mean nothing to you I'm sure, but it is extremely time-consuming and frustrating at times. But it gives me something to do.
