Wardrobe Fail

It seems my bangs are in desperate need of a trim. I don't really need to see though, do I? Nor does anybody need to know that I possess eyes.

I'm wearing: F21 dress and cardigan, thrifted belt, Blowfish booties, necklace from my dad.

I am officially tired of all of my clothes. It's not even that I'm just tired of them; they simply don't suit my desired style right now. It's extremely frustrating. I'm sure you all understand the feeling. You spend half an hour rummaging through your wardrobe, digging through the same set of clothes each time, yet you keep hoping something new and unexpected will show up. Well, it never does. So you throw something on that just doesn't feel right, regardless of how good it may look on you. Well that's how I feel today. I like how the outfit looks on me, but it doesn't make me feel the way I want my clothes to make me feel. It doesn't express me the way I want it to. And that is extremely frustrating to me.

I've been feeling this way a lot, lately. And it's awful, because I'm not sure how to fix it, aside from just buying a ton of new clothes. Problem is, I don't have the money for that. How do you deal with it when your entire wardrobe just doesn't feel right? It's so discouraging; I'd love to hear your input.

Stupid Sneakers

Thank everything that's good, today is overcast! And cool, and RAINY! I mean, it's only a tiny drizzle going on, and it might be over by now, but... oh I just love the rain. I can't wait for winter in Portland, it's going to be so wet and dreary! I'll have to buy rain boots! Brilliant!

However, there are some bad things about how wet it is in Portland. For example, my car became a mobile pond in May when we first moved here. It smelled of mildew and minnows, so I opened the windows when it got hot and let it air out... only now, there's spiders living in there! Ugh! Thank goodness Greg discovered them and not me, or I'd have had a meltdown. Yuck. I kind of wish somebody would just nuke my car so I'd have a good reason to buy a new one.

I'm wearing: F21 dress, sneakers, and necklace; Target tights.

Ew, apparently this whole outfit is Forever21. Oh well, I shop there a lot; not afraid to admit to my addictions here. I really do not like these sneakers, I'm sorry to say. But this outfit seemed so "dressy" to me that it needed casual shoes, and these are the only really casual shoes I own, in my opinion. How awful. I need a new pair of sneakers, stat! (Too bad that won't be happening any time soon. Damn you, unemployment!)

Yesterday I took a day off from blogging. No update, very little blog reading (I only visited a handful of my favorites), nothing. I felt like it had been getting a little out of hand lately, considering I was spending 5-ish hours daily just reading other people's blogs and commenting. When am I supposed to work on my book in that time? So yesterday was a nice break from that. I went to the library, got groceries, made deviled eggs, wrote several pages in my book, and began watching Mad Men. It was a nice day overall. As much as I love blogging, I need to budget my time more efficiently, it seems.

So, Mad Men. I like it, so far! I mean, I do not like any of the characters as people; they're all awful in their own ways, or just sad, but they are very real. And I like that. I'll probably continue to watch, but I don't know if I can marathon it like I can True Blood or Fringe. There's something a lot heavier about this show that demands a break every three or so episodes. It really is teaching me a lot about characterization and dialogue, though. I love noticing how the writers play with dialogue to really develop character, and create subtle conflict.

What are your favorite characters from television, movies, or books? And why?

Donnerstag

Welcome to Thursday! How did it become Thursday so quickly? It seems like seconds ago that I was just lamenting the woes of Tuesday. Oh well, the faster time flies, the sooner my mom arrives in Portland to visit me! I'm so excited; I can't wait to show her my new home.

I'm wearing: Old Navy dress, thrifted scarf as belt, Aldo shoes.

I've discovered that candy makes me feel ill. It used to be my favorite thing in the world; I could devour a bag of Skittles in moments. But last night I opened a bag of Skittles that's been lying around the apartment for about a week, and I couldn't even finish it! What even! Oh well, it's healthier this way... I guess. Sigh.

Had another interview today, and I think it went rather well. We'll see within the next couple days. Wish me luck and such!

I'm due to go to a happy hour with my best friend and neighbor, so I shan't say much more, but I do want to say thank you to all of my new (and old) readers! I love and appreciate each and every comment I receive on my blog, and I try to reciprocate in kind. Every comment gives me the warm fuzzies. I love you all! Thank you! ♥

Featured Blog: Laughing With Broken Eyes

Welcome to my second feature post, guys! This time, instead of an old friend, I want to spotlight a new blogger friend. That's part of the reason I made this blog -- to make new friends with fellow awesome girls! So yeah, let's all tip our hats now to Amber Rose, of Laughing With Broken Eyes.

Amber and I have a mutual love for each other's blogs, so we thought, why not do a feature exchange? She writes me up, and I write her up too! Obviously this is a super great idea. I really enjoy Amber's blog because she's a gorgeous, gorgeous girl, first of all. I am pretty jealous. And her outfits are lovely, perfect for lounging about on the railroad tracks in a youthful and carefree way. I love that she truly comes across as a genuine, down to earth person. That's something I look for and really appreciate in a blog. So go check her out! She's awesome! But you don't have to take my word for it...

And now, for your reading entertainment, Amber and I came up with 10 ridiculous interview questions for us both to answer for each other. So fun! These are Amber's responses.

1. If you had to wear one kind of hat for the rest of eternity, what kind of hat would it be?
Hmh.. Well, I've got this really dorky bowler hat with a feather in it (like Yankee-Doodle-Dandy!). Whenever I wear it, I get the strangest looks but I feel so much like Sherlock Holmes in it that I think wearing it an eternity might just be alright.

2. What is your theme song?
This is such a hard question because my theme songs are constantly changing. Better play it safe. "Wonderwall", only the Ryan Adams cover. I'm torn between that and "Hurt", the Johnny Cash cover. Can you tell I like covers? This is purely coincidental.

3. Describe the ideal vacation spot, and a coinciding outfit.
I recently went on a trip to New York, and I just loved it! Throw me in the big apple for a week and I'd be a pretty happy kid. Brooklyn is where I actually want to live some day. Maybe. I'd wear a simple, lacey dress with mary-janes. Why? Because I absolutely love lace, and as for mary-janes... In a perfect world with me at my dream vacation, I'd be able to walk in heels.

4. If you went to Hogwarts, what House would you be in, and why?
Ravenclaw, of course! I'd love to be known for my cleverness!

5. GUILTY PLEASURE. Tell us them.
I collect vinyl! I spend all my money on albums and records, and whatever is left over goes to clothes! This reminds me.. I really need to put gas in my car. Hmh, I think I'll leave that in there. :)

6. The obvious one- Personal style! Gimme three and a half words to describe the way you dress!
Romantic, Vintage, Jazzy, :)
The smile was my half-word.

7. Photos! What's the strangest thing that's happened to you while taking them/ being photographed?
Oh-- this is a good one. I was taking photos of myself down at the railroad tracks one day. There was no one around so I was using my car to balance the camera on. Anyhow, I'm posing it up doing all sorts of things. Once I was done, I walked over to get the camera and, upon looking at the pictures, saw a young woman (20something) in the background, staring straight at the lens. I turned to see if she was there, but nobody. My friends make fun of me for this, but I'm convinced she was a ghost. No joke.

8. Music. You just found out you're adopted. What singers do you pray are your parents?
Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash.
But if I could choose ANYBODY... it'd be Marilyn and JFK. :)

9. What is your favorite color?
Yellow.

10. Quote/Song Lyric Time:
I could be a total cliche and say "Laughing with your broken eyes", ala Ryan Adams (I named my blog after those lyics, after all!) but I'm not.
"Too tired to eat, too hungry to sleep." Nada Surf, See These Bones.
See how I snuck two lyrics into that question? :)

...Amber, I am kind of freaked out by your ghost story, not gonna lie.

This is what I love about blogging; it opens me up to a world of awesome people I might never have known about before. Also, check out my answers to her questions at her blog, and see the dinky portrait I drew of her as a gift.

Stay tuned for more info about getting a custom portrait of yourself! Coming soon.

I HATE YOU BLOGGER

I had a super long blog post written out, and it was very witty and entertaining, and I even listed out all of my favorite movie composers for you guys! It was so relevant and great. And then I hit some random button accidentally and it was ALL DELETED. So now I'm super frakking angry and I don't even care. So have some lame pictures.  >:(

I'm wearing: Target shoes, Express skirt, Urban Outfitters t-shirt.

I HATE YOU BLOGGER. I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE.

Character Development

Happy Tuesday, all! There's one good thing about being unemployed, and that's the fact that I don't feel obligated to hate Tuesday like I did when I was working. There's just something about Tuesdays that I highly dislike. It's not Monday, so you're not fresh from the weekend, but it's so early in the week that you can't get excited about Friday yet. Wednesday is nice because it's Hump Day, Thursday is Friday's Friday, and Friday is, well, yeah. Tuesday has nothing going for it. Nothing! Except for cheap ticket Tuesdays at many movie theaters. But that doesn't count. Happy Tuesday anyway!

I'm wearing: Thrifted dress and belt, Target leggings and shoes, Ralph Lauren sunglasses, necklace from Greg.

As promised, an actual outfit post today! I wanted to try to style this dress again, with a more laid-back and bohemian vibe as opposed to the black and white, romantic look I had going before. Also, I'm wearing these shoes out for the first time this summer. I just can't ever come up with an outfit that I like for them. Maybe I just suck at styling heels and wedges; who knows?

So I've been convinced to try Mad Men! (Anne of For People Who Wear Clothes did the convincing, in case you wondered.) I know, let's all jump onto the bandwagon together and high-five, but I was told the characterizations were super well-written, and I am a sucker for well-written characters. Characters are always what make or break a book, show, or movie for me. If a character doesn't grab me, even if the plot is excellent, I'm lost. I just don't like bland characters. Whenever I write, I try hard to focus on character development and dialogue, as well as believable relationships and character traits. Plot, to me, is secondary. How do you all feel about characters versus plot? Is one more important than the other, or do they rely on each other to create a believable and enjoyable story?

That's probably why I've grown to love Fringe so much. The characters of Walter and Peter Bishop really appeal to me, and their father/son relationship is the most interesting part of the show. I mean, yes, two-foot worms popping out of people's mouths is also exciting, but what keeps me watching is the development of Walter's character, and his hilarious dialogue and eccentric personality. He's one of my favorite characters in a show right now (others include Eric Northman, Maurice Moss, and John Watson), and unlike some "crazy" characters, his eccentricities don't seem forced or overly repetitive as a means to force comic relief. Yes, he is one of the only really funny things about the show, but it doesn't seem contrived or awkward to me. His character is truly believable, sympathetic, and genuine.

So now I've gone on a ramble about characters in TV shows on my style blog. Let's try to tie it all together somehow. Hmm. I suppose I can just say that, on my blog, I am almost like a character to my non-RL readers. The only things they know about me are what I write on here. So I try to keep it interesting, but also real. Because I am real, and I don't want to put on a farce to keep people reading. Perhaps this is what draws us to certain blogs; not so much the clothes, or the photos, but the personality behind those things. I like to think this is true in my case, but I really am a sucker for pretty pictures...

Interlude

Guys! Guys! I'm here. I'm just busy waking up early, getting unexpected job interviews, and then having panic attacks in the bathroom. Welcome to Crazy Neuroses, population: me. It's okay, though. I lived through the short-notice interview, although I've no idea how I did. It was the oddest interview I've ever had.

Tomorrow, I promise, I will post an outfit. Today, however, you'll have to make do with the above PhotoBooth photo of all of my abundant hair. I'm also working on a book lately, which is distracting me from obsessive blogging.
