Now I'm Posed In An Awkward Stance

Oh boy! So there are a few gradual changes going on here on ye olde blog. Firstly, as you can see, I've been playing with the header image. The original argyle-print header was meant to be temporary, a place-holder until I got off my lazy bottom and actually got around to drawing a header image. Which, finally, I did! It was quite the struggle getting the hang of my Wacom tablet again (and I'm still very rusty), but so rewarding. Check out my DeviantArt gallery for more awkwardly-rendered digital art.

I'm wearing: Old Navy romper and t-shirt, Target suede boots, Wet Seal belt (from a skirt).

Wow, so this outfit. I'm not sure what I think of it. I've been wanting to wear it for a while now, but never got around to it until now. I'm kind of wishing I'd never gotten 'round to it, though, as it has become apparent to me that this romper is severely unflattering. It shows off my legs and hides my waist, which is admittedly the opposite of what I want my clothes to do. And then paired with the boots, it makes my legs look like little stumps. Sigh. Oh well, it can't be helped! There has to be at least one dud outfit in every bunch. At least I don't hate it, I just feel rather like a shapeless sack.

It didn't help that Greg made fun of my posing during our shoot today! I couldn't stop laughing, and it made me all self-conscious and awkward (more so than usual). He said I do the same "bend the knee, look down" pose every time... and it's true! How embarrassing to have one's formulaic outfit poses pointed out. I suppose it's just an innate need to look elegant, streamlined, and skinny, which is in itself somewhat silly. Why do I feel the need to assume unnatural stances in order to look "better"? Why not just slouch and glare at the camera like I usually do when walking about on my own? I'm not sure anybody would want to look at those photos, for one thing. I can tell you, I'm a huge sloucher. I've a long torso, so it's hard for me to hold my long bendy spine up in a straight line for very long. All you long-torso'd people will agree! It's a pain. Perhaps my poses are all an attempt to make my legs look longer, my torso shorter, my arms leaner? Apologies, Greg, but I will continue to adopt these ridiculous poses, regardless of your mockery! So there.

Tilty Camera Issues

Today is a very lazy day. It's Saturday, after all. I give myself a break from job-hunting on the weekends, and focus instead on sleeping 'til mid afternoon, chugging Coke Zero (diet Pepsi gets old after a while), and watching Greg play Final Fantasy XII (or some other video game) out of my peripheral vision.

I'm wearing: F21 dress and belt, GoJane shoes.

I had some photography issues with this shoot. Namely, tilty camera issues. I'm devoid of a tripod, sadface, so I have to prop my camera on whatever is nearby and convenient. Today, it was an uneven, moss-covered stone wall thing. I tried rotating the photos in post-production, but in doing so I lost much of my freedom of cropping. So, unfortunately, you're left with slightly crooked photos -- some more than others. Sigh! I'm determined to get a tripod as soon as I can afford one. Until then, awkwardly tilty pictures.

Last night Greg and I picked up some ingredients, and I made crepes. They were delicious, but I definitely put way too much stawberry jam and Nutella on them. And then I ate them way too fast. So needless to say, I had a tummy ache for a while after that! I recommend making homemade crepes, though! It's super easy, and you can put pretty much anything on/in them when you're finished. Cheese, eggs, meat, chocolate, fruit, sweet or savory, it doesn't matter! Admittedly I've never had savory crepes, but I'm sure they're tasty.

Have a rad weekend everyone!

Food Cart Lunch

Apparently it is not ideal to have my outfit photos taken in the late afternoon. The sun is so high overhead, and at just the right angle to create annoying backlighting effects that aren't exactly optimal for outfit shoots. Admittedly we could find a different location, but neither of us really enjoys the photography process so we try to get it over with as quickly as possible. I feel awkward posing, and Greg feels like a dork taking my photos, so... perhaps we just need to suck it up and get over it. Or join Hermits United and live in a cave in Siberia.

I'm wearing: F21 skirt and hat, Target tights, Old Navy flats, Express top.

Wore this to get lunch at the food carts downtown with some friends. I got delicious pad thai, but we had to wait for like 30 minutes to get our food. Efficient and convenient, this food cart was not.

I'm slowly running out of items of clothing to wear before I begin to recycle hardcore. I got rid of way more clothes than I should have before the move, so I'm left with slim pickings for outfits. On the bright side, it forces me to get creative with my outfits instead of just wearing a new dress every day. On the not-so-bright side, it forces me to wear outfits I normally wouldn't choose to wear, just to avoid duplicating looks. We'll see how it all turns out. And maybe I'll get a job soon to help fund my sartorial addiction! *crosses fingers*

French Fries

So, after taking a ton of outfit shots and discovering that most of them came out overexposed, blurry, or just plain unflattering, I decided I didn't want to subject the internet to such a disaster. Greg did a wonderful job photographing me, I really just don't like how my outfit turned out today. It was one of those things where it looked way better in the mirror. Oh well! Tomorrow I'll try again.

Anyway, in lieu of real outfit photos, have a picture of me with my 4th of July french fries instead:

Om nom nom french fries! I actually made some homemade fries last night (the ones pictured are definitely store-bought), but they turned out more like floppy potato slices. Oh well, they still tasted great dipped in ketchup. Maybe I'll try again sometime, and cut the slices smaller. I think that's the key to crispy fries.

Anybody know any good recipes for french fries? Or just any good recipes, period?

Schoolgirl Geek

O hai internet. What's happening? Not much on my end. Just a sudden burst of amazing weather, courtesy of Portland, and an extreme craving for an iced vanilla latte. And a new hat.

I'm wearing: Old Navy skirt; American Eagle shirt; F21 vest, earrings, and hat; Target socks; shoes from Ross.

My outfit's not very subtle today. I wonder if I'm going for a schoolgirl look? Hmm... not sure! You decide. (I'm being sarcastic here, just to clarify.) I feel ridiculously comfortable in this kind of outfit. Not in a physical way, but mentally. It's geeky, but in a vague way, and it's definitely not as trendy as some of my other looks lately. I don't feel as comfortable when I'm wearing the latest trends; it makes me feel like a poseur.

Anyhow! I think I'm going to apply for some jobs and then wrest the XBox away from my man so I can check my property holdings on Fable II. Oh yeah.

Oh, and everybody who said Fringe was awesome? You're so right! We watched the first episode last night, and while it was focused mainly on introducing the characters and the overarching series plot, it was super fun times. Can't wait to watch more!

Black & White Romanticism

Thank the heavens. It's in the 70s and windy today. At last, a respite from the overbearing and energy-sapping heat! You can blame 90-something temperatures for my absence from the blog. It's just not that fun getting all dressed up and taking photos out in the sweltering heat, especially if you're just going to take it all off again once you get back inside. To my relief, today I woke up to a much milder day, and thought it would be the perfect time to style this new dress I found at Buffalo Exchange.

I'm wearing: Thrifted dress, Target tights, Aldo shoes, F21 earrings.

Greg and I recently started watching Leverage, a dramedy (this word needs to be used more) about a crew of thieves who steal from the rich and give back to those who have been wronged by said rich dudes. It's very Robin Hood-esque, but totally entertaining, and they film it here in Portland! It's fun recognizing landmarks in the background of outdoor shots. Sadly we've already nearly finished season 2, so once we're caught up we plan on starting Fringe. Do any of you watch it? Thoughts?

I Heart Paisley

I almost didn't take outfit photos today, but I like how this purple tee goes with my paisley skirt, so I figured I probably should. Just so I wouldn't have to wear it again later. What a laaaazy day today.

I'm wearing: American Eagle t-shirt, F21 skirt, vintage belt, Blowfish booties.

I have another interview on Friday. I really hope it goes well! It sounds like a job I'd be quite good at, although I haven't really heard much about it. Based on what I know, it wouldn't be a bad job. Wish me luck! ♥

And I just want to say, thank you all, every single one of you, for your lovely, sweet comments on my posts. I'm loving visiting so many of your blogs that I'd never read before. I love being a part of a community of well-dressed girls (and boys). Yay! So thank you, again, for coming here and being so positive and affirming. :)
