Hello Tattoo

Everybody, say hello to my brand new tattoo! A lot of you probably saw it on twitter already, but I wanted to make a little post about it so those of you not "in the know" can understand why I put a blue police box on myself for all of eternity. I figured I'd do a little FAQ here since I've been getting a billion questions about it!

Q: What the hell is that thing on your arm.
A: It's the TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space)! The TARDIS is a time machine/space ship from the BBC show Doctor Who, in which the Doctor travels with his companions doing cool stuff. It looks like a police box but it's bigger on the inside! Beneath the TARDIS is a bow tie, and the word "geronimo." These are there because my Doctor is the Eleventh Doctor (played by Matt Smith), and he wears a bow tie, and his dorky as all hell catchphrase is "geronimo!" Essentially this is the nerdiest tattoo known to mankind. (Unless you count my friend Rachael, who got a TARDIS that says "allons-y!")

Q: Why would you do that to yourself!
A: I heart Doctor Who. A lot.

Q: Did it hurt omg how much did it hurt.
A: Yes it hurt like a motherfucker. Nobody warned me that it would hurt so much, but I'm glad they didn't! Otherwise I'm not sure I'd have done it. Well I would... but I think I would have pooped my pants beforehand. It seriously hurt a lot! Like someone dragging a needle across my skin. Oh wait that's basically what was happening.

Q: How big is it!
A: As you can see in the photos, it's about 4 inches tall! Bigger than I had originally planned, but I like it exactly how it is now.

Q: Are you happy with it?
A: Yes, yes I am completely happy with it! It would kinda suck if I wasn't, haha, but I totally am. I think the style suits me perfectly, and now I am branded with the love of my favorite show and my favorite Doctor, which I think is pretty kickass. So yes, I LOVE IT! ♥

If you have any other questions feel free to leave them in the comments. And yes I am going to post bigger, clearer pictures of it soon, once it stops being swollen and peely. Gross.

I truly recommend learning the full history of the TARDIS so you know how to respond to the people in the UK who have been watching it since 1964. Questions like "WHY is it in the form of a police box?" and "Has it ever been in the form of anything else? What of?". . .I'm a Doctor Who geek who thinks to have a tattoo like that it is very important to know such things or you will be laughed at if you show people it in the UK, because they will think it is sad that you have that if you have only knowledge of the series since '05 - Just sayin'!!! I hope you understand my reasoning in this is for your best interest. A true geek of the show would go all out to learn all they can and see ALL the episodes available to learn even the history of a lot of the creatures who have popped up in newer episodes (the pilot episode will be boring, but "An Unearthly Child" will be amazing - also don't see the Peter Cushing movies because they were filmed by different people after the series was out and are not connected to it and that is why they don't consider him a doctor. William Hartnell, Patrick Troughten, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy forever!! <3). Many of the original episodes are on instant play on netflix. I think it is a beautiful tattoo by the way!!! <3 I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome tattoo!

Also, the more I read your blog the more I am convinced we are so similar. I just went for a planning meeting to get a tattoo this past weekend. It's almost in the same spot, although it is of kitties snuggling.

Congratulations on your tattoo =]
It's quite fantastic!
I have two. The nerdiest of the two would have to be the Tim Burton related one on my leg. Nobody can see mine but they just cheer me up so much whenever I see them =]
Enjoy!

AHHHH! I AM IN LOVE WITH YOUR TATTOO!!! Congratulations! :) My friend has a small, black "Allons-y" tattooed on her left wrist a la David Tennant. Alas, I wish I could wear my "supernerd" around with me all the time like you cool cats, but I scar far too terribly to ever get any ink and have it look like anything other than a giant mess of an inky blob. So instead, I bake TARDIS cakes (http://doormousedoodles.blogspot.com/2011/05/timey-wimey-tardis-cake.html). (^_^)

Seriously, though, SUPER cute! Can't wait to see the rest of the pics! :D

Sarah @ The Doormouse House said...

HAHA! (^_^) Ummmmm...are you kidding me?! I'm jealous you can get a TATTOO of the most BA thing ever! But me? No. I have to come up with weirdly wacky ways to show my love for DW. Like filling the picture coasters hubby and I got for our wedding with DW pictures (which has solicited plenty of odd responses from guests), a TARDIS cookie jar, that giant poster, a "TARDIS sweater" and on and on. LOL I'm glad you were a fan of the cake!

Wow. This tattoo is awesome! Usually, I think that tardis tattoos are too kitsch, but I've changed my mind, how cutie is yours!
I want to tattoo on my wrist a bow tie, and under it "Bow ties are cool", but I'm too scared. Too much pain... ><
Eleven is my doctor too ;)
