Winter Tea

I finally finished I Capture the Castle on Thursday, so I watched the movie last night. It was relatively loyal to the book with some minor changes, but my main problem with the movie was in its tone. While reading the book (which is told from the point of view of the protagonist, Cassandra), I got a humorous, quirky vibe due to the youth and honesty with which she writes in her journal. For some reason the movie seemed almost too grim. Maybe I misinterpreted the book, though; I'm known to do that. I'm curious, though -- if you've read the book, did you then watch the movie? What did you think, was the tone just right, or too serious?

Anyway, moving on to FASHUN. I really liked the 1930s clothes they wore in the movie, thin old dresses with cardigans and wool hats. It was all very impoverished, but in a cozy, charming way. And I decided that's how I want to dress this fall/winter, albeit less impoverished and more cozy. So I made a polyvore set. Behold.

Do want! I now have little slip dresses and thick cable-knit sweaters at the top of my Must Buy For Fall list. I've yet to even begin doing my fall shopping, and some people are already done. What even, you guys!

I'd also like to make a public service announcement: if you have any pressing questions to ask me for the upcoming Q&A post (lol bold), please ask them here or at my Formspring! Last chance! I'll most likely do an answer post tomorrow or thereabouts. Ever wanted to know how much I can bench press (don't bother asking, I don't know the answer)? Curious whether or not I floss regularly? Want to know my favorite historical figure or fictional character? Now's the time! Ask away. I invite any and all awkward personal questions as well. Unless they involve ranch dressing (don't ask, really).

p.s. Pad Thai Kitchen on Belmont serves huge portions when you get take-out! As in, I will never finish eating this pad thai!

Don't feel bad about not starting your fall shopping yet, I haven't either!!

The look you made is drool worthy though. I feel like a lot of fall/winter looks get a bit on the heavy side as far as fabrics go, so matching something light and flow-y with the thicker, sweater material is just perfection!

Super cute look! And it reminds me of a refined grunge look... I don't know maybe because of the dress plus knit hat and scarf? Something about the look brings me back to high school (ahem... dating myself ;)

Oh and I have a question for you! What is your favorite music? I'll take an answer in the form of a band, genre, era, etc. :)

I loved that book but I have yet to see the movie! I agree though that Cassandra was definitely quirky and youthful and really funny at times. I'll get the movie from netflix & see if I agree with you. (:

Also, pad thai is food of the Gods. It doesn't matter how large the portion. I will destroy it.

Ughh I love everything about that set! I am now picturing myself wrapped in cozy cardigans, sipping tea in my library while snow falls outside the window.

I don't have a library and to be honest I hate snow. Look what you've done to me.

"FASHUN.". I don't think you've ever failed to make me smile. I'm kind of slightly in love with that dress and those shoes. Just sort of a little bit. The teacup is pretty awesome, too, though! Ba haha. No worries about being behind on fall shopping. That just means you'll get the good sale items!

I haven't actually seen the movie, but I find that's a problem with a lot of book adaptations. They're too literal in interpreting the drama of what happens, and they forget that the humour, or at least the cheer, was so essential in the book. I enjoyed that book, especially the portrayal of the nudisty stepmother. But I would definitely not be nudist ever if I had that outfit you've put together. My winter tea drinking usually involves about six sweaters and really dry skin. It isn't fair!
