We've Got Obsessions

Yesterday I busted out this dress for the first time since last fall. I forgot how much I like it! I thought I really disliked the sort of tribal print, but I find I actually quite like it. Not usually a fan of the tribal thing, though. It also has adorable puffed sleeves which you can't see in these photos (obvs), but which I love because they make my arms look less like grandma arms. I dunno.

Also rediscovering the inherent possibilities that go along with scarves! I only have one scarf, alas, but I want to buy more. I probably won't, however, because my funds ought to be going toward summer clothes and not cold weather things (even though summer doesn't really start in Portland until late July).

I'm wearing: F21 dress, belt, & earrings; UO cardi; and thrifted scarf.

I started watching The Borgias last night. I'm already hooked! I love period television shows because the possibilities for amazing costumes are endless, and the stories are always so expansive and dramatic. I adored Rome and I'm continually on the search for something similar. Incidentally The Borgias takes place in Rome, but during the Renaissance. I'd never really read up on the Borgia family before, but I did listen to a podcast on Lucrezia Borgia once, so I'm intrigued to watch the show and then do my own research to see how historically accurate it turns out to be. Not that I care; I'm not that big a stickler when it comes to historical accuracy unless it's in regard to costumes, but I'm super interested in history so it's more curiosity than anything. Accuracy to books is quite another matter, however...

Which brings me, of course, to A Game of Thrones! What an amazing adaptation. I'm reading the book as I watch the show, and I can't say enough what a great job they've done so far in translating the book to film. The dialogue is word for word most of the time, and while some of the casting choices are a bit questionable (though nothing as bad as Mel Gibson as Hamlet), I'm thoroughly impressed by the whole thing. Not to mention the story and characters are great so far! If you haven't already, watch this show.

Oh and Doctor Who, you guys... don't even get me started. I will give a full review after part two airs on Saturday, but seriously... I can't even handle how much I love this show.

So what dorky (or non-dorky) things are you guys obsessed with at the moment?

yes I want to read that review of Doctor Who badly! The episode seemed so short to me. did it to you too? I won't be reviewing it until the season is done (but it will be short).

That scarf is hardcore amazing.

I'm not usually a fan of tribal print either, but I really like this dress! I think because the colors are more simple and muted and not all BAM in your face tribal colors. Yep, that's it.

And I would definitely be able to say "I KNOW!" about the Doctor Who whatever but someone didn't email me my guideline! :P

v cute look, love the pattern on the dress!

The legend of the most unholy Pope ever fascinates me & I love those kinda trashy but highly addictive US shows so pretty intrigued by Borgias..not sure when it'll air in the uk!

My obsessions: Arsenal and collecting Golden Age mystery novels. I LOVED THE DOCTOR WHO S6 PREMIERE. Sorry for the caps but I thought it was fantastic: the cinematography in the desert scenes was gorgeous and I was really, really frightened. I love a good scare.

I love the dress and your scarf!

I'm currently rewatching Kings and the first two seasons of Parks and Recreation. I'm an episode behind on Game of Thrones but I thought the pilot was pretty decent.

But the only important thing is Doctor Who :D

Dude, why are you so cute? I love your outfit-- that dress is adorbs (embrace the tribal print!) and I'm digging your scarf... In terms of current obsessions, I still can't get enough of the Golden Girls (I'm such a sexagenarian at heart)! Kind of an embarrassing confession, but hey, I feel like I'm amongst friends here! ;)

I don't normally gravitate towards tribal print either, but this dress is awesome!! You paired it with the perfect cardi, belt & scarf too. Everything just goes SO well. You don't have any feet in these photos though, so I hope you're not throwing off the whole look with a pair of bunny slippers or something (eh, actually that would be awesome).

Game of Thrones still isn't enthralling me or anything, but I'm gonna continue watching it...

I'm still all about the Borgias. Cried several times during the most recent ep. Again! Argh.

I'm also kinda liking (loving) Workaholics. "No Ders left behind!"

And Community. Always.

Yes on Game of Thrones! Love it, although I haven't read the book yet. I mean, Sean Bean. SEAN BEAN!

I really like your dress mixed the camel cardigan! Your hair has been making me jealous.

Another good HBO period show is "Carnivale." It was only on for two seasons, but it was amazing! I'm a big sucker for anything old-timey circus-related!

I'm pretty much into anything super dorky and that's dorky by my standards. Who else gets excited and jumps up and down at the age of 24 for a box set of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. Uh...Me.

And your tribal dress is super super cute!! The way you paired it with the belt is great!

For some dumb reason I totally skipped the paragraph where it said you started watching Borgias. I'm glad you like it! Yay! Don't you just love Chez-uh-ray? (He's French Canadian in real life, but his Brit accent is fab--at least to my American ears!)

I love the tribal print, but then again I love tribal prints in general. Things I'm obsessed with right now: rewatching every episode of SATC for the millionth time, finding a pair of Indian churidar pants (the skinny pants East Indian women wear under their tunics...OBsessed), beginning my summer tan, and blogging.

I haven't read the books but I'm planning on getting around to it and I'm glad the adaption is well done. HAven't been able to get into Dr. Who even though I have friends and a brother who are obsessed with it..

I started the Tudors but then forgot about it, so i need to get back to that. I just finished watching all of 30 Rock and I am moving on to Californication, then after that it's finally Dr. Who time!

I love this dress! For some reason I find myself drawn to tribal prints.

Oh man! The Tudors drives me bananas (in the "I'm absolutely obsessed" way. Everyone must watch it. I'll have to start The Borgias for sure. By the way, that dress is adorable! For most of my life, I've always shied away from more exciting prints, but lately I've been getting more adventurous. It's a blast!

I'm not a huge tribal print fan either, but I do love your dress and the way it looks with the color of the belt/cardigan. My current dorky obsessions are the 3DS and playing the new Back to the Future games on my computer.

your post title doesn't happen to be referring to the Marina & the diamonds song, does it? I got all excited and you never mentioned if it was... It's featured on my blog, though, if anyone wants to check it out.
