I am in a GOOD MOOD today! There are just so many reasons why my life rules in general, especially today. Not only did I finish The Walking Dead volume 6, but I drank coffee at work and it didn't make me sick, I watched The Mighty Boosh and Sherlock while taking calls, and I found this photo of Patrick Wolf looking like an utter and complete BAMF.
And then there's the rough draft of a short story I wrote last night! Clearly, and I can't stress this to myself enough: writing fiction gives me an extreme high. Especially when it's characters I love. It's like revisiting old friends and finding that you get along with them just as swimmingly as the last time you saw them, which is an incredible feeling. I missed these characters and I plan to force myself to write about them regularly from now on!
I'm wearing: Express skirt, Gap blouse, H&M hat and necklace.
I've decided I need to dress more like a writer from now on. How pretentious does that sound? But I don't care, I want tweed and grandpa sweaters and seasonally inappropriate scarves and elbow patches and bow ties and... and. What do writers wear, anyway, aside from my own personal conviction that as a writer I ought to dress like a hybrid of the Eleventh Doctor and Johnny Depp in Secret Window?
Take today's outfit, for example. Far too pulled-together to be writerly, I'd say. In this outfit I'd much rather be in the dingy bars of Portland's late 19th century, sipping gin and narrowly avoiding being Shanghai'd into slavery on some ship bound for the Orient. Although a struggle in the dark tunnels of the Portland Underground would be a stimulating adventure, all told.

YES! DO IT!
I had a writing professor once who looked like Johnny Depp in Secret Window. He was awesome.
I love this outfit! And i think it's so cool that you enjoy writing so much! Ever consider sharing your work with your fellow bloggers?? :)
I love the writing high! I wish I had more creative writing time; now I just get my "high" from writing essays for my political economy class. Not the same at all.
I love the cameo necklace.
You write fiction too? UGH WHY DON'T WE LIVE IN THE SAME TOWN? Please tell me you want to be a writer, like for realsie, because that is what I want to do!
Every day, you just get cooler and cooler in my eyes. Oh, and now I'm picturing the Eleventh Doctor attempting to write fiction (probably about adventures in a haunted thrift shop filled with vintage bowties or something), and it's, as they say around the interwebz, lolarious.
I'm laughing, you're description of dressing more writery is so cute, and especially since you think you look too put together here to be a writer. I totally picture writers all strung out on coffee, staring at their laptops with a crazy look in their eyes. Like they havn't slept for days?
But anyways, I love your outfit, even if it's too "pulled together" it's lovely.

I really love your cameo. I need to find one.
haha your post made me laugh put loud! you have to write, it will be a crime if your wit doesn't make it into a novel. lovely outfit too x
There is so much awesomeness in this post, that I can't pin point a favorite. And of course your outfit is very writer worthy. I suggest in your next post you dress as Edgar Allan Poe--- http://www.amazon.com/Edgar-Allan-Poe-Action-Figure/dp/B0006GKJSG
I love how you dressed up :D
you are like the best writer ever. for realz.
Ugh, I really need to get back into my writing. I've been slacking. I just need to sit down and force myself to get started on something. And then, like, finish it. Womp womp.
This outfit is so adorable. I love the hat. Love the hat. I think you look very writer-ly!
maybe you should go way back and dress like a hybrid of Virginia Woolf and Charlotte Bronte....you know like doilie collars and hair buns :)
Um....I just need to say that this hybrid sounds amazing!!!!!!!!! Do it do it do it! Oh, and your look darling today:) i love that necklace!
I love this post. I've been encountering writers and people encouraging me to write again like mad the last few weeks. I think it's a sign. Have you considered sharing samples of your writing? I know that sharing much puts you in danger of not being able to sign with a publisher for that piece but I was considering strengthening my fiction writing skills by doing a weekly feature. I think it would be a cool diversion from fashion all the time.
Your cameo and stripes and bowler are tres old-school chic. I'm loving it! I think you look exactly how a writer should look. :) A fashionable writer, of course!

yayyyyyyy for the writing high and visiting old friends. maybe you'll be like salinger with the glass family (love, love!) and write your own 'nine stories'. do it!
ps you definitely look writerly here--very beat (who says writers have to be slovenly, anyway?)
it seems like writers are popping up all over the style blogosphere these days (or maybe i just like those bloggers best). we should start our own 'delightful dozen' except with writers. because then everyone else would know how cool we are. :p
seriously though, i do think it would be pretty cool to get a bunch of bloggers together for a little writer's workshop blog. except that might not work because i am almost violently secretive (i won't even let my boyfriend read what i write).
ps your hat is also awesome :)
-your best friend
I totally agree about writing fictional characters you like. It's like a party on paper with all these people you like!
I agree with Caitlin on the Beat writers thing. I write fiction as well, and I have to say I've been slacking ass lately. Thanks for reminding me to write something that ISN'T a blog post!
I love your outfit! Especially that hat. And I'm so glad you're in a good mood :)
Also, I just released the first issue of my magazine Femme and I would love it if you checked it out! You can read it here: http://issuu.com/bisousmonamour/docs/femmespring11
God I wish hats suited me. You lood ADORBS x
I LOVE this post. Seriously. I love how you wrote about the feeling that writing gives you. Writing something your proud of is just...it's kind of an indescribable awesome feeling. I want to read your story!
Anyway, I also love the idea of dressing like a writer. This outfit kind of makes me think of snazzy reporter. I love it! I think I've used the word love eighty times in this comment but I can't help it!
Writerly outfit, pen hats! looking wonderful as always x
I've been wanting to get into Walking Dead, I was hooked on the show and I'm obsessed with zombies.I love how this hat sits on you head it looks so great with that button up.
:) Beautiful as always.
& I always imagine the old fashioned writers with a quill & parchment.. haha. :)
The mighty boosh, wants to be a writer and a li'l quirky too! A kindred spirit! (is that too wierd..lol) but i know how you feel..I get cranky if I don't write for a few days.
p.s. loving the cameo!
they still have slavery on ships you know in Shanghai and other places. . but usually planes are the choice of bringing people around through slavery. I just finished reading my 20something modern-day slavery book a few weeks ago that reminded me a lot of the Sherlock episode because a man and his wife and his brother all at different times were trafficked/smuggled into the UK and forced into really hard labor against their wills, the brother died and I forget what they called the situation but it made headlines like crazy when it happened because a bunch of Chinese people were crushed on purpose under something.
anyway i really love this outfit of yours!!! Beautiful!! I think 10 more days until the new Doctor Who?
yes, this is precisely how a writer should dress.

Every single time I read something about Holmes on your blog I feel guilty for not knowing anything about him, except for the classic short stories. :P I did realize the other day when I watched "House" which I had never seen before, that it was totally holmes! House=Holmes. Wilson=Watson. Only House can figure out what is wrong with the patient=only Holmes can figure out the case.
Ps-You also look adorable! You make me want to dig out my striped skirt again!
