Christmas Pudding, What Are You?

I'm experimenting with camera placement and lighting, it turns out. I figure it's useless to continue doing full-body photos when I'm wearing the same boots and tights every single day, so I'm playing around with like... just-torso shots, although that led to my head getting cut off, therefore instead of doing the normal thing and moving the camera up, I just contorted my body in weird ways. Ah, the joys of laziness.

I'm wearing: F21 dress and necklace.

A simple enough outfit today. I picked up this dress over the weekend, and I was so happy when I found it, because I feel like I've seen it somewhere before and wanted it, and when I saw it I had an instant soul-bonding experience. I love the 3/4 sleeves, the pockets, the print, the length, the scoop neck and the style. So all of it, then. Sadly I had to layer like 3 sweaters over it in order to stay warm at work, so nobody saw it really, but oh well.

I'm slowly feeling the Christmas spirit take over! It doesn't help that Cataclysm comes out tomorrow, because for some reason Christmas always puts me in a WoW-playing mood. So fair warning, if I don't update my blog for the next several weeks, it'll be because I'm leveling to 85 and exploring the new zones and probably creating a Goblin 'toon and basically having a Grand Olde Tyme in the world of Warcraft. FANGIRL FLAIL, etc.

So in one of my previous posts I went on about Sherlock fanfic, specifically slash fanfic. Well, somebody asked if I could possibly rec some, and while I'm way too lazy to go back and find that comment and address that commenter by name, I love you commenter. I do. Because you've now justified this in my style blog: I shall now rec some Sherlock fic! Warning, if you're homophobic (in which case go away), or you haven't seen the BBC Sherlock, you may not enjoy these as much as a Sherlock/John-obsessed slash fangirl, but you never know. Also just assume that all of these are R or NC-17 with possible porn and/or violence, so just beware. Anyway, read the following.

The Paradox Series. This is a series of shorter fics, which can be read separately, but are best enjoyed in chronological order (as listed). They are hands down (in my opinion) the best Sherlock fics out there, in terms of characterization and writing skill, but they're a bit dark as a warning.

Skewed Data. Very short but SUPER hot. Srsly u guise. Worth a read. I'd also recommend all of the fics by the same writer, which can be found at her livejournal here. All quite short and delicious.

Nobody Raise Your Voices. Okay so I'm biased, because this was written by one of my internet besties, but it is seriously an amazing fic. Very dark and pretty violent and... well dark, but lovely, so read with caution. But do read, since it rules.

So those are a few of my favorites, although I have read pretty much every single good Sherlock/John fic out there, and I loved all of them, so yeah. If you want more, just email me and I'll send you a list as long as your arm.

Check out my half-assed Doctor Who/Sherlock crossover fanart!

Anyway, so I came up with a good way to celebrate the holidays in my own joyous way this year. Every week until Christmas (or however many times I can manage it), I'm going to find a Christmas-themed English recipe, and make it and eat it. I love Christmas, and I love English things, so why not combine the two into a glorious festive orgy of glee? Greg thinks they'll all be gross because England has notoriously bad food, but I've yet to see any evidence of that (fish & chips FTW, anyone? come on), but who knows. Any suggestions from my English readers? Am I being delusional here? Probably, but at least I enjoy it.

(However... not gonna lie... Christmas pudding looks kinda narsty.)

What do you guys think? Are you as excited about Christmas as I am? This is my first time having Christmas away from "home," so I have to come up with my own traditions now. It's kind of an exciting prospect!

Finally, I just want to say how much all of your responses on my body image post meant to me. I wrote it not knowing if anybody would even get exactly where I was coming from, let alone be so touched by it. The fact that so many women of all different ages (including my best friend's Mom) connected with what I wrote and found that it resonated with them, well, it really touched me. Everything I wrote came from my heart, however cheesy that sounds, and I am so glad it meant something to you all as well. ♥ forever!

OMG, that last picture of you is especially beautiful. I love that your dress looks like it was thrifted, and I mean that in the best way! I also want to hang your fan art in my house. Anyway, I think you are cool. Like bow ties.

Your fanart is wonderful! As is your dress!
I love the idea of an English Christmas recipe every week until Christmas. Sounds like fun!

Ah, I love that dress! It's simple but totally awesome. Plus, it's one that I'm sure you can wear year round.

And yes, I'm so excited for Christmas too, although finals have kinda pushed that aside this week. Bleh.

I've just done my first post experimenting with a tripod and timer. I'm not sure that it's love yet. But I guess if I was wearing something as sweet ass as your floral dress, I'd probably feel better about it.

Really good lighting. I love the dress. It reminds me of the 90s which subsequently makes me want to listen to Blur for the next seven hours.

I like your English recipe challenge. It sounds very... challenging. O.O

I can sympathize with the lighting/laziness problems with taking photos. I also tend to have been wearing the same black jeans recently and am pretty sure no one wants to see them again.

I am pretty excited about christmas! I made short bread last week after discovering that it is the easier recipe ever.

I like hearing about other people's christmas prep!

You're hilarious! My most recent photo shoot had me sitting on the floor so I could get into the frame, pfff. I miss my photographer.

Meg you look amazing! You are so beautiful in these pics! haha I totally know what you mean when you say you are too lazy to move the camera, that is why half of mine are blurry. :P

Cool drawing! I've never really gotten into Dr. Who, but my step-mom is obsessed with the show, so I grew up with it. Love the dress, the sleeves are great and so is the print!

Oooh I love me some Doctah Who. Haven't gotten into the Sherlock though. That's a great drawing! About the only I can actually draw with some semblance of competence is a Dalek /randomfact.

Anyway, I love that dress! It's awesome how easy it is to pair a dress with some woolly tights for winter days and still look so put together!
