Sad is Happy for Deep People

Well, a bird pooped on my windshield today. Oh yeah, bird? Well fuck you too!

My eyes are freaking out once again, which clearly means I need to get off my ass and actually buy some new glasses. But glasses are so expensive... whine, moan, grumble. I seriously may just buy some cheapo frames at UO and get Lenscrafters to put prescription lenses in them. I mean they'd probably be higher quality than my current glasses, anyway.

I'm wearing: H&M top (from years ago in Germany), French Connection skirt (via Buffalo Exchange), Target cardi, Wet Seal belt.

I'm listening to a Christmas album my parents and I used to love back when I was a kid. It reminds me of my childhood, which makes me happy and a bit melancholy. Christmas has always been my favorite time of year, and some of my favorite music is Christmas music. I'm not a huge fan of the newer stuff, all of that pop Christmas music is stupid (except the Paul McCartney one, that one rules). I'm more into traditional carols, sleigh bells, harps, flutes, wassailing, all that. Apparently this album is Romanian, as it has a bunch of Romanian carols on it that have become tradition to me. "Patapan," anyone? Such a great Christmas song that often gets overlooked (although it is French, not Romanian).

When I was learning how to play the harp, it was nearing Christmas time and my teacher said something about Christmas music being some of the most beautiful music ever written. It truly is. The great majority of the songs I know on my harp are Christmas carols.

I really wish I had my harp with me in Portland; I've been hankering to do some recording. Long ago I did a cover of Jethro Tull's "Fires at Midnight," but it was pretty bad and I'm an awful singer. However it was a fun experiment, and I'd like to try it again.

Feeling kind of nostalgic and melancholy at the moment. It's this music! Not that it's a bad feeling. As Sally Sparrow said in the episode "Blink" of Doctor Who, feeling sad is "happy for deep people."

Hehe, I knew I recognized the post title from somewhere! Should've known it was a DW quote!

Getting prescription lenses put into cheap UO frames is actually a brilliant idea, especially if you're clumsy like me. If the frames break, no problem!

You look adorable today.
I'm doing the same Christmas music thing - same mood, too. An album I used to listen to every year (on tape!) with my mom.

Hello cuteface! That's really all I needed to say. :)

I love that skirt! Just adorable.

Also, you might try America's Best in Tigard for eyeglasses. Two pairs for under $100, seriously. I always go to them.

Also, my brother in law is Romanian and he would love this post!

I seriously love the way you write--- quirky and amazing, like you!

I really adore your outfit-- and how you did the twisty thing with your belt. I tried that once... but it ended badly. Twitch.

And yay for classic carols-- I swear, if I hear the Mariah Carrey (ey--or--y?) Christmas CD ONE MORE TIME I might have to punch someone.

Have a great night, dear. And ALWAYS remember...
Mariah Carrey music is the antichrist.

Always. Remember.

I think you are so adorable (I hope adorable sits okay with - I still get it, but have learned to love it). Anyway, I also think it's very cool that you play the harp!

I'm getting some new glasses myself. I just picked up GlassesUSA.com as a sponsor and they're offering 15% with the code "bluecollar". I'm totally not trying to sell you something, but you should definitely check out their site, because it's a ridiculously cheap way to get prescription glasses. Good luck!

Haha, oh goodness, I still have your recording of Fire of Midnight on my desktop. Along with some old Wottons music and a Pirate song from Abby that I still get stuck in my head sometimes.

I was such a groupie.

Loving the outfit! I hate buying new glasses too, I have to pay extra for mine because they have to thin the glass I need; my prescription is so strong if they didn't the glass would be like an inch thick! This also means I can't order online... x

I really really like that skirt... and I also really like the sound of that Romanian Christmas album. Can't stand the Paul McCartney Christmas song though!

Well, I can't avoid liking your blog more and more each day! let's see...about the glasses, I did that with mine. Picked up some vintage glasses and the doctor managed to put the prescription lenses in them. So I agree with you. Then, I have the exact same opinion about Christmas, and Christmas music. Yesterday I actually went to a classical concert with traditional Christmas songs with a choir. It was magical!
I didn't know you learned the harp! That's SO amazing! It's a unique instrument!
Could you please tell me the reference of your Christmas album??
I would love to get to know some more traditional Christmas music!

I really love this outfit! That skirt & that belt are both adorable. I love the lighting in these phtos, too!

I have the hardest time picking out glasses - I want to put lenses in my UO frames too! Ha.

You could try zennioptical.com

They have glasses starting at $8!
I've bought several pair from there and they have worked out pretty well. The only downside is you can't physically try them on since you're ordering online. But you should be able to look at the frames you have now to find out the eyesize you would need. I work in optics, so if you have any questions, drop me a line!

Just for the record, I do work at America's Best (just started this week) but I did work at Lenscrafters for 6 years! :) Good luck!!

You are probably the prettiest gamer in the world. It's true- I read it on Blizzards homepage.

I vote Greg buys you a harp for Christmas, that way you can play it in your next video blog. A musical vlog. It'd be most exceptional!

I didn't realize you could take in cheaper frames and have your prescription put in them! I may have to look into that next time I have an appointment, because spending over 400 dollars each time I need new glasses doesn't agree with my unemployed wallet.

So this look is fantastic. I'm digging the darker plaid skirt with the neutral belt! So pretty!

Yet again, I'm in love with your post. They're always so much fun to read AND you look absolutely AWESOME in the meantime. I love that skirt!

So I didn't know you played the harp?! That's SO cool! Jethro Tull cover?! O.O I wanna play the harp SO bad! I have an obsession with learning weird instruments. I play the irish tin whistle & i'm learning the accordion.

I love all that old Christmas music stuff too and Patapan is my FAVORITE Christmas carol! It's SO beautiful. The pop stuff sucks(except for a few, including Paul. :D)

Oh and "years ago in Germany", did you live there or just visit?

Ok I'm done writing for now. I tend to go overboard on my comments. hehe <3
