A TOUCH-POP OF WHIMSICAL COLOR

The Tron: Legacy soundtrack is... how do you say... FUCKING AWESOME. Just thought I'd let you know. How can you go wrong with Daft Punk and Tron, though, really? I don't think you can. It's not possible in this world.

I'm wearing: American Eagle shirt, H&M skirt, Wet Seal belt.

For some reason I've been really averse to wearing two bright colors at once in a single outfit lately. Is that weird? I used to be all about wearing a billion bright colors at once, but lately it makes me feel super tacky. I'm all over neutrals with a "pop of color" (puke) lately. Can I just say, I hate the phrase "pop of color" (please note that I used it ironically)? It is the most over-used, trite, stupid fashion/blogger phrase I've ever heard. If you've used it please don't take this personally! I'm not attacking anyone; I've probably used it myself in the past. I just... it is so flipping cliche and cheesy. Pop of color, guys! Also hate the phrase "touch of whimsy". Uuuuuggghhhh kill me now. I think there should be a list of phrases fashion bloggers shouldn't be allowed to use, and those would be at the top of the list. If you're going to be a writer (and bloggers are writers), at least use an original descriptive phrase here and there. We don't allow that kind of cliche crap in real writing, so why should bloggers be throwing it around like crazy people? ...So that just turned into a rant. My bad. Yes I am easily riled up over stupid things.

Er... ANYWAY, so I don't often wear colors all together like this (or I try to stick to more subdued colors at any rate), but this green top is pretty calm, almost neutral-y, and I dunno it just felt right at the moment of looking for clothes to wear. Plus all I did today was hang with my girl Ashleigh, who sweetly let me subject her to episode 1 of Sherlock! And then we watched Mansfield Park, which will always be a favorite. Ah, lazy Sundays.

Debating whether I want to journey to F21 to exchange those dresses for some more much-needed cardigans. It's just so cozy here inside.

What a whimsical pop of color!

I kid, I kid. Haha.

You were wise to put that shade of muted green with the purple, because it looks killer. I'm a fan of bold-colored combos, but at the same time I've seen looks with way to many shades going on that it all clashes instead of compliments. This combo compliments.... not like " Oh, yeah cute" compliments.... but like "My! You look positively amazing today. Pardon me while I gush out a 20 page diatribe over how much I'm swooning" type. :)

I am so with you on the pop of color thing! I find myself typing it into a post and then hesitating for like twenty minutes trying to come up with something I actually like :) your outfit here is ssoo lovely! that belt is perfect.

I'm going to start using the phrase "burst of hue" instead or "explosion of pigment" HA!

Oh Meg, I truly love your rants! Oh and this is really random, but F21 has an awesome cardigan right now. I just bought the pale pink one. But here is the link, just in case you might be interested:

Cardigan Link.

Yeah I'm real original with that link name. Anyway, I'm really wanting to try to do some indoor photoshoots soon, you're are turning out so good!

Yeah, I basically hate it whenever the word "pop" appears in a comment. And all comments beginning with "I adore." should be immediately banned too. But I'm loving Heather's suggestion of "a burst of hue" and "an explosion of pigment." Going to have to keep those in mind.

I think there's a right way to do bright on bright and about a hundred wrong ways, and nuetrals do the opposite of making colours "pop" so well soo...

I'm so jealous of your hair, it looks so soft haha. Pop of color works SOMETIMES, but not all the time. Touch of whimsy makes me want to jump through the computer and smack people though. You look perfectly comfortable, that purple is awesome.

i'm not too fond of the "pop of color" phrase, myself. i'm sure i've used it a couple times before, but i'm pretty sick of it now. that and "chunky knits". i think i'm going to scream if i see one more blogger write about wearing chunky knits this fall/winter.

i use to be all about bright outfits, but lately i've been wearing more neutrals. i think they make me look older & make my coworkers take me more seriously.

you can't go wrong with purple! it is just the best color ever! And I agree, every time I hear myself think "pop-of-color" it makes me want to shoot my own foot. But I must admit that my main issue with "touch of whimsy" is that I need much more than a touch, I would like a whole bucketful of whimsy please and thank you.

I kind of loved your little rant about cliches. I'm totally guilty of saying, or typing rather, "pop of color" but I agree that originality in writing is super important, so no more "pops of color!"
Anyway, i LOVE your skirt. Seriously, that purple color is great.

PEEEEEEERSONALLY I would have asked Kavinsky to do the soundtrack (considering his Teddy Boy EP sounded Exactly Like Tron 1 and I swear to god you should go find it and listen to it because it's sick nasty awesome), but I guess Daft Punk makes it recognizable...plus, when you have a budget like that movie, why not ask them?

Though, watching it again recently made me realize how slow the first one was. :P

Boo on fashion cliches! I have fallen victim to using them (not 'touch of whimsy,' good God) and I resolve not to!

I also have an unreasonable hatred of the phrase, "I picked this _____ up at so and so"... Totally irrational, I'd said it before, I don't know. Weird.

You look extremely cute! You have the best skirts. I love them all.

I tend to like that little pop of colour like what you did here best. I think some people go a little overboard with too much colour at times. ;)
I must see Tron Legacy very very soon. . .my husband and I have been waiting for it to be in theatres for two years (we are Tron geeks and were raised on it as children). hehe.

Your skirt's pop of color adds a touch of whimsy to this entire outfit! I die!

No but seriously I love when you rant about things such as this. Please elaborate on your list though. I want to see "Meg's List of Forbidden Fashion Blogger Phrases" in a future post please. :D

Oh and please somehow get your harp & record a video because it would MAKE. MY. DAY.

Oh and you do look really cute. I like the belt.

I am a new follower and I think you are hilarious and adorable, perfect combo!

I agree on the tacky writing style of a lot of bloggers, girls seem to feel the need to sound too cutesy ha.

And I can barely tell that shirt is green, so it looks perfect with the skirt : )
